Softball Alberta Return To Play

Jun. 12, 2020

A message from Softball Alberta... [CLICK ON LINKS BELOW FOR FULL DOCUMENT & PRESENTATION]

The Board of Directors of Softball Alberta would like to thank you all for your patience & understanding over the past few months while we all deal with the repercussions from COVID-19.

With the recent announcement on June 9th from the Gov’t of Alberta - some softball activities may now resume.  All Softball Alberta Associations & Leagues must meet our affiliation / membership requirements in order to resume their activities.

It is also important to note that local municipalities determine who can use their facilities & when.   They may have their own requirements & restrictions in place for facility rentals. This will vary across the Province.

The Softball Alberta Board of Directors have approved the “Return to Play” (RTP) Protocols and want to thank our Return to Play Committee for all their volunteer time they put into this.

The RTP Protocols are attached for all our 2020 Member Associations & Leagues as well as the “Association Declaration of Compliance” form.

The new RTP Protocols do not include rule changes to how the game is played but focus on physical distancing and sanitation measures.   Also attached is “Pre Activity Screening” template for your use and the RTP presentation.

We also want to remind everyone that before you can participate in any sanctioned softball activities your Association/Leagues must:

  • Affiliate with Softball Alberta
  • Acknowledge all the “Return to Play” requirements  and submit the “Association Declaration of Compliance” form to Softball Alberta
  • Ensure all participants have registered into the Softball Alberta RAMP season which includes an Assumption of Risk Waiver & Declaration for each participant.
  • Obtain approval from your local municipality to use the softball facilities

Until all of this has been completed, players & coaches will not have membership with Softball Alberta. We urge everyone to be patient as we want to ensure we maintain the integrity of the game while respecting the health & safety of our members.

We will also be holding a “Membership Town Hall Meeting” on Monday, June 15th at 6:30 pm to further provide education to our members regarding the new Return to Play Protocols, implementation of the “Pre Screening Activity” forms and of Waivers and Assumptions of Risk.   It is important to note that the use of these documents does not mean members are not insured in case of an injury while participating in a sanctioned activity. The use of these documents is for the protection of our members relating primarily to Liability Insurance coverage.

Softball Alberta RAMP season registration will be open on Monday, June 15th at 12:00 noon on our website - www.softballalberta.ca.

Notice of registration for this Town Hall meeting will be emailed out shortly to each contact for all our 2020 affiliated Member Associations & Leagues.    Each Association & League is encouraged to forward this registration sign up information to each of their Association/League coaches who will be running any softball activities in 2020.
